Question: Hello, I`ve been having the second time some symptoms, that are unusual and very unsettling. It starts with a weird pressure in my right ear, then I get a kind of "drop down" feeling in my chest and then my resting heart rate goes up suddenly from around 70 to 110, I get dizzy and have over all discomfort feeling in my body, then tightness in the chest and tingling in arms and feet. The heartrate and that feeling goes on for about 30 minutes and then slowly goes away, but the dizziness and tingling remains for another hour or so. Can you please tell me what a possible cause could be ? Thank you in advance, kind Regards! XXXXXXX

Hello Maya!

Welcome to Ask a Doctor service!

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to thyroid gland dysfunction.

Another possible cause to consider would be panic attacks, an inner ear disroder or partial epilepsy seizures.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and performing some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR, thyroid hormone levels, blood electrolytes, fasting glucose levels).

If these tests result normal, the next step to follow would be consulting with an ENT specialist and performing labyrinthine tests in order to investigate for a possible inner ear disorder.

Finally, if all the above causes have been excluded, consulting with a neurologist and performing an EEG may be needed.

Hope to have been helpful!
