Question: Hello. My 15 year old son had adenoid surgery at the age of 11 which did help with his snoring and congestion. However, for the past 2-3 years my son has coughed every 30-45 seconds while awake. Thinking it was an allergy, we took him to get checked and sure enough he is allergic to just about everything from pets to mites and weeds. So he has been taking shots for 2 years straight with very little to no affect on his coughing. Yes, we do have a cat and yes we do have indoor carpeting, however when away from both of these things for 4-5 days his cough still continues. My concern is that the adenoid surgery caused some scaring that acts as a trigger for a cough, a tickle in the throat that triggers mucus development. Why do we need this figured out? Our walls in our house, floors and bed sheets all smell like saliva and mucus. My wife is at her limit with cleaning up

Welcome to the healthcare services. It seems that your son is having post nasal drip either due to allergic rhinitis or due to infection of the residual adenoids or sinuses. You do a x ray paranasal sinus. Start with mometasone nasal spray 1 puff at bedtime for 3 months. Take nasoclear saline nasal drop 3 drops thrice daily for 2 week. Take proper steam inhalation. Stay away from allergens. Advice your son to do running exercise, yoga or swimming as it will help to generate the mucociliary action. Please review if you have any queries.
