Question: Hello,
My baby is 5 months old. He was having a trouble in leaking gas, pooped greenish and a mild fever. I was advised to give bifilac 0.5g XXXXXXX mixed in 20ml of water and giving him 1ml once in an hour. Please confirm that I'm doing it right.

Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Fever needs to be investigated. Otherwise ok.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for using the 'Ask A Doctor' service.

I have gone through your query and understand your concerns.

For a baby of this age, it is normal to pass stool several times a day or even after each feed. Alternatively, the child may pass stool once in 10 days and that is normal too.

Unless the stool is hard and pellet-like, no need to worry. It is also normal to pass green stool or a combination of yellow stool. The green color occurs due to rapid transit through the large intestine where the bile pigments do not get adequate time to convert to the yellow color of stool.

It is OK for some mucus to be there in the stool. In short, I don't suppose that Bifilac needs to be given. Anyway, it will not harm.

However, fever in a child of this age is not normal and would need to be investigated. A complete hemogram and CRP needs to be checked for.

Regards
