Hello, My Brother Tested Positive For COVID 19. He Lives

My brother tested positive for COVID 19. He lives with my mom and I saw my mom last week for a few minutes while she was loading some stuff into my car. My mom is getting tested. I haven’t seen my brother for about 3 weeks. I feel fine not showing any symptoms of Covid 19 but I want to know what the likely chances of me getting this are? I’ve taken the online survey to get tested but says that I don’t qualify at the time
Low risk
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'.
Your risk would be considered very low. Typically you have to be around someone for extended periods of time to be able to transmit the virus, so it would be very unlikely you could have gotten the virus from your mom during the few minutes you were around her. If you did have the COVID 19 virus, it would be almost as likely that you got it from some other source than from your mom, depending on whether you have been out in public at all. So while it would be hard to say exactly what the chances of getting the virus would be, I would say the chances are less than 1% that you got it from your mom.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
