Question: Hello. My husband was prescribed Valtrex and Diflucan today at a MD appt for what he says is a yeast infection? I have read up on the uses and can not find any info to support that. Please help!!

Diflucan (also known as fluconazole) is an anti fungal medication and is therefore used to treat fungal infections including yeast infections.
Women who prefer tablets, commonly used diflucan instead of topical creams or ovules to treat vaginal infections.

Valtrex , on the other hand, is an anti viral medication. It is used to treat viral infections and would not be effective for a fungal infection.

35 days of diflucan is a long supply and typically not given for mild infections.

Valtrex would not normally be given at all for a yeast infection of his throat because it would not be effective against this type of pathogen at all

I knew that much about both drugs. Supposedly both were written for a small yeast infection of his throat, which I am quite sure is not the case. I know what both drugs are typically used for and I guess I just wanted confirmation that I wasn't losing my mind as I am an RN of 23 years. He was given a 10 day supply of Valtrex and a 35 of Diflucan.
