Hello, My Mother Is 85 Years Old. She Suffers From

My mother is 85 years old. She suffers from Mylofibrosis. Her platelet count is low. Can she take Hydrocodone and/or Ativan or will one or both of those medications lower her platelet count even more? Thank you for your prompt reply with an answer to my question.
They don't affect platelets count much.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Hydrocodon and/ or ativan has no significant effect on platelets count. So it can be taken with low platelets count. But both drugs have their own side effects and in combination they produce more side effects. So consult your doctor before taking any of the medicine. Because it is strictly prescription based medicine.
As far as myelofibrosis and platelets count are concern they can be taken without significant side effect.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you very good health.

Is there anything else my mother and her Mexican Hematologist can do to raise her platelet count? We need to know if her getting IV steroids or taking steroids by mouth will help to raise her platelet count. Are there any other medications or treatments you can recommend that I ask her Hematologist to consider prescribing for my mother? I realize that giving my mother packed platelets would only provide a temporary fix, because the platelets will not stay in her body for longer than one or two days.
I am concerned that the drop/dive of her platelet count from 97,600 to 55,000 is dangerous and will cause my mother to start bleeding at any time. My mother and I would be grateful if you would be willing to provide any other suggestions and answer all of the questions in this message. Thank you very much.

Ruxolitinib can be helpful.
Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
Sorry for delayed reply.
Low platelets count and anemia are common in myelofibrosis. You are right giving blood transfusion is just temporary solution. Platelets will drop within few days after blood transfusion.
Permanent treatment is bone marrow transplantation.
For platelets improvement you can try newer targeted therapy like ruxolitinib. It is JAK inhibitor and many studies showed that it can be helpful in improving platelets count if given in appropriate dosage.
So your doctor can try it if all other clinical situation are favourable. It is strictly prescription based medicine and have many side effects. So consult your doctor and plan accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me. I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
