My mother slipped and fell in the bathroom. Apparently, she has a fracture on her shoulder. The doctor has left the decision to us regarding her going for a surgery or treatment without surgery.
We would like to understand the Pros and cons of each approach, i.e. treatment with and without surgery.
Would you be so kind as to explain the pros and cons of each approach?
Below are the details:
Age:64
Gender: Female.
Pre-existing conditions: Diabetic and Thyroid.
I attached the reports and x-ray for your reference.
Thanks,

Answer
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for the query
Such fractures in her age are usually treated without surgery unless it is the dominant hand and she needs to use that hand for walking stick or frame.
Your mother has medical comorbidities like diabetes and thyroid problem which makes surgery more risky. Surgery may not offer more benefit than Non-operative treatment in her case.
Non-operative treatment means no increased risk of infection, no chance of blood loss or blood transfusion, no anaesthetic complications which can trouble her due to the medical problems. It can be treated in collar and cuff. It can cause some stiffness due to keeping in one position for some time but physiotherapy van bring back the range of motion.
I hope I have answered your query.
I will be available to answer your follow up queries.
