Question: Hello,

My name is Anupriya, I was diagnosed with PCOS in late 2016 and also Pre-diabetic. Since then I am not sure of my A1C level. I did some blood test recently but the Doctor did not advise me much on the result Gynaecologically. I will upload the result here, is it possible to explain PCOS, Pre-diabetic and A1C status.

I am taking Metformin 500mg due to this, without this medicine my period is problematic as I skip period. Please advise so I can go in right track.I am also low in Iron and have a SED rate of 30.
I feel very weak, fatigue, feel drained out of energy if I do minute work.

My period is always fluctuating, last month I had on Dec14, this month its on Jan17th. I have started having pain over pelvic area when I had period last time, since then pain is still there. I did ultrasound which came normal.

Please advise.

Thanks & Regards,
Anupriya

Brief Answer:
The attached reports are normal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have gone through your query and understand your health concerns.

I have seen all the attached reports. These are hormonal tests like AMH, Estradiol, TPO, E2, and androstenedione. All these test reports are normal. The HbA1C levels above 5.0 are considered raised. You can get this test done to find out the prediabetic status.

PCOS is a condition wherein numerous small fluid-filled cysts will be located along the edge of each ovary, which affects the release of Egg (Ovulation) causing difficulty in getting Pregnant.

Losing some extra weight can help in improvement of PCOD and prediabetic status.
The feeling of weakness and fatigue can be related to low iron levels. Proper iron supplements, green leafy vegetables and increased intake of fluids can help.

The mild pelvic pain during periods is normal. In case the pain is intense and is persistent then pelvic infections need to be ruled out after getting yourself examined by your gynecologist.

The periods can be regularized by losing extra weight, continuing with metformin and some supplements like Myo-inositol.

I hope this answers your query.

Hello Doctor,

Does my report say anything about PCOS? The report was talking about Hormone test which is Anti-Mullerian Hormone, does this hormone indicates whether I have PCOS ?
Is there any specific test for PCOS? How do I if I have done that test or not?

Brief Answer:
The ultrasound scan can confirm.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing in again.

The report does not suggest that you have PCOS. On ultrasound multiple follicles are seen in the ovaries which suggests PCOS. AMH indicates the ovarian reserve - means it is suggestive if your ovaries have an adequate number of eggs present or not.

You can get an ultrasound done to confirm PCOS. It is also diagnosed based on your symptoms like delayed periods, a pre-diabetic state, weight gain, etc.

Hope my answer is helpful.
