this is a CORONAVIRUS QUESTION
Brief Answer:
Wash or wipe the outside of all products
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. As of now there is still a lot we don't know about the COVID-19 virus, including how long it can live on surfaces such as packages and fruits and vegetables. While the risk from such items may be low, if you want to be sure that you cannot transmit the virus from such items, I would suggest wiping all packets and packages with an alcohol or clorox wipe, and then let dry for 30 minutes before touching again. For fruits and vegetables, I would wash them with soap and water, being sure to rinse them thoroughly. Afterwards you should be sure to wash your hands (or use gloves when washing). This should be sufficient to kill any virus that may be present on these items.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
