Hello And Good Day, I Am Writing To You Regarding

Question: Hello and good day,

I am writing to You regarding one issue and would appreciate Your diagnosis or a suggestion what this phenomena might be.

In the last three days i have noticed bruises (or hematomas) on my neck. I did not play any sports these previous days, there was no trauma to the neck. The first hematoma occurred on the 21st and has all but disappeared until now. The second hematoma occurred this morning.

I am sending You pictures of both sores in the attachment.

At first I thought this might be caused by neck ties and shirt collars. I am a lawyer and I wear a shirt and a neck tie every day. I have quite a large neck due to my body weight.

However I do not wear such clothing on the weekend, and given into regard that it was Easter weekend i had three days off in which time I wore loose garment.

Therefore I cannot find a reason for creation of such sores.

This is why I contact You.

Other symptoms. I have not had other symptoms which I would directly connect with this issue. I have to say that I have, what i perceive as an allergy, an itch on my hands and upper side of palms. A doctor had told me this is contact dermatitis, which seemed logical to me. I had one other symptom of sorts, and this is sort of a tingling or a tremor in my lower left abdomen. One small part of it was twitching. It occurred twice, both times while I was seated and i felt the twitching beneath my fingers. It was on the left side, between lower ribs and hip. It was not painful, just weird.

The medication that I am currently taking are antihistamine for allergies and sometimes antacids. I do not take drugs, I do not drink alcohol and i do not, nor have I ever smoked.

I am overweight (191 cm, 135 kg). I am 33 years old.

Please advise what steps I should take.

With regards,

Mislav Gorupec

Brief Answer:
May be due to muscle sprain. Follow up with more details.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As there is no history of injury or medication, as per my knowledge bruising over neck may be due to muscle sprain or unnoticed scratching.

Please let me know do you have history of sprain or workout?

To rule out any other possibilities I would suggest you to do complete hemogram, coagulation studies after detailed medical examination and hematologist opinion.

Till then apply thrombophob ointment locally. You can also give cold compressions. In case of pain take tab. Tylenol.

Let me know I can assist you further...

Dr Shyam Kale.

Hello and thank You for the answer.

I do not think that it is possible to be a neck sprain, because I have not had any workout recently nore did I have any physical exercise. This is what makes it so peculiar.

Do You think it might be an internal issue such as aneurysm which I do not know about, or something related to internal organs?

I would like to avoid lab tests if possible because they take a lot of time during the work day.

If this is no worrisome matter, I am ready to wait and let it subside?

What would You say, apart from a strain, might be the cause of such a phenomena.

Brief Answer:
kindly see detailed answer.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for reply.

As you don't have any other symptoms, so I don't think it may be aneurysm or any other major issue.

I think other possibility may be unnoticed scratching. At present I don't think it's a major issue.

So I would suggest you to apply thrombophob ointment.

In case of bruise at other site, bleeding through gums, black stool, then you require immediate evaluation as suggested earlier.

Let me know I can assist you further...

Regards,
Dr. Shyam Kale.
