Question: Hello, and thank you for reading, I'm DEEPLY despaired! Last month, on the 10th day of my menstrual cycle, I developed an abscess in my mouth and I had to take 2 different Antibiotics, Amoxicillin and Metronidazole for 7 days. Everything was fine until I should have started my menstruation, between the 25th and the 30th day, but it came late on the 35th day and started with only old brown blood. So after 2 more days the real menstruation FINALLY started. I was so relieved until I started to realize that something was different. Normally I stop bleeding at the 6th day and then I normally have 2-3 days brown discharge, old blood, but this time I noticed on the the 7th and 8th day NO brown discharge but in the evening I had on the 7th and 8th day still pink blood on the paper after wiping, but no "flow". So I'm not bleeding anymore, it's one time per day, that I have a little "pink" on the paper. The last time, I had sex was 7 days before my menstruation started and I had NO ISSUES AT ALL! No bleeding, no pain, nothing. I have bacterial vaginosis, which I treat with the Multigyn Actigel and it's burning this time. When I took the antibiotics for the abscess in my mouth, it didn't burn AT ALL. I have no itchy feeling, no pain, nothing. Even the menstrual normal pain was way less, then usual. I called a friend in Germany who is a Dr and he said, that the Amoxicillin has an influence on the hormonal levels, and I shouldn't be that worried, but I still am. Before and during the menstruation I made pregnancy tests and they all came back negative. I am a very anxious person, with a strong fear of doctors. . Could this whole mess be very the result of the 2 antibiotics? Thank you very much!

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for sharing your health concern with us.

I have gone through your query and would like to offer some information.

From the description you have given, it is likely that you are experiencing hormone imbalance. This can happen when there is an infection which can cause an acute stress thereby leading to aberrant hormone production.

You are likely to benefit from a course of progesterone to set the cycles back on track. However, I suggest that you also get a proper gynecological examination before using any specific medication.

Please maintain proper genital hygiene. Pregnancy is not a possibility since you had the intercourse during the safe period.

Hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

regards,

Thank you VERY much for your reply!

I just have a theoretical question... COULD a hormonal imbalance fix itself, without taking something?

Brief Answer:
Transient imbalances are self-correcting.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing back.

Transient hormone imbalances are often self-correcting. However, in the current scenario, since the spotting is persistent, I suggested further management.

Hope this helps.
