Hello Doctor, How Do I Treat Dandruff?
Helpful measures and shampoos to try mentioned below
Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask a Doctor service,
Washing your hair daily is all that is needed for mild dandruff. Gently massage the scalp with the fingertips but do not use your nails when massaging the scalp. Sometimes, just changing the shampoo is needed as use of the same shampoo for long time may not go well with your hair. When you choose a shampoo, you may take one that says "antidandruff".
Some examples of such shampoos are Head and Shoulders and XXXXXXX dandruff relief.
Other shampooes to help with dandruff are those with coal tar or salicilic acid such asNeutrogena T/ Gel and Neutrogena T/Sal. Shampoos with Selenium sulfide and Ketoconazol shampoo reduce yeast in the scalp and may treat dandruff.
You may need to start with one shampoo, try it at least three times a week for one week and if it does not help you will need to try a different one. Unfortunately, sometimes, patients have to try a few of these shampoos before the find the one that best fits them. Different shampoos treat different causes of dandruff so finding the one that is for you may require you to try a couple of them or more.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
