Hello, I Had An Eye Infection Conjucvitis. I Was Given
i had an eye infection conjucvitis.
i was given an eye ointment by a GP.
i put the eye ointment wrongly. instead of putting on the lower eye lid, i put the eye ointment on upper eyelid. i XXXXXXX above the eye from the upper eye lid.
after that i started becoming extremely sensitive to light. couldnt even see my phone. i went to an eye specialist and he prescribed Tobradex for the conjucvitis. he saw some white spots on my eye pupil and he said that is an immune reaction.
anyhow - 5 days after i stopped using tobradex the infection and light sensitivity came back. failure to get appointment for same eye specialist i went to see another specialist.
he prescribed maxitrol.
my question are 2:
- is using maxitrol (for 1 week)
It can happen after viral conjunctivitis
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for your questions. The eye can have immune reaction leading to white spots forming on the cornea that is the central clear part of the eye after an episode of viral conjunctivitis . It is not related to your putting the ointment. Both maxitrol and tonradex have dexamethasone which is a steroid and which can be uses for such a condition along with some artificial tear eye drops . These should be put 2-3 times a day for Few weeks till resolution is obtained . The steroid eye drops can be subsequently tapered off while artifical tears continued for 3-4 months . It will take time to resolve but will resolve ultimately . Hope my answer helps you . If you have any follow up questions please feel free to ask.Regards
The maxitrol to be put for 2-3 weeks will not cause any secondary issues for my eye ?
Also , why did I have a recurrence of the eye infection when I stopped tobradex ?
It can cause increased pressure
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the follow up. It can cause increased pressure in the eye so you meed to be monitored for the same . I think tobradex was stopped prematurely so this happened but sometimes infection is very virulent and this can happen anyways . hope it helps . Regards
