Question: Hello, i suffered from an episode of SIBO that was eradicated by anti biotics for one month. I miss my morning coffe and ocasional sodas. What diet sugars (or substitutes) for my morning coffe can i consume without feeding the (fire) bacteria and causing them to grow back"? I hear it is better to consume simple sugars (brown sugar and dextrose) but that obviously would impact my sugar intake. I tried Equal and Aspartame, but they gave me loose watery stools.
Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Use stevia leaves.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for choosing "Ask a Doctor" service for your query,
Have seen your details,
I would suggest you to use leaves of stevia( not powdered stevia) as a sweetner.
It's herbal and natural.
You can easily get them online( dried leaves).
Hope I was helpful.
Thank you.

Hello Dr XXXXXXX So It cannot be in powder form even if the package says "made directly from organic Stevia leaves with natural, no artificial contents"?
Just want to make sure...
Thank you,

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
The problem with powdered formed is that it's highly processed.
Thing to ponder upon is that how could you convert leaves into such fine powder? This involves lots of processing...and that should be avoided.
Atranil capsule is good but I would suggest you to take VSL#3 capsules twice daily along with it.
Thank you.

Hello, but VSL#3 as a probiotic isn't that putting " more friendly bacteria" into the instestine? Precisely what we suffer from SIBO (friendly bacteria overgrowth)? It is helps i will take it , but i'd like to know your reasoning first.
Thank you again!
