Question: Hello, i was a police officer and have had 3 significant on duty car crashes some of which where the impact was very significant. i have had to retire on ill health due to the injuries to my neck, shoulder and right arm for which i now have been diagnosed with cervical spondylosis and thoracic outlet syndrome and have had a rib resection and scapula muscle taken out as i have damage to the nerves and artery being compromised along the right shoulder and right arm. Can my injuries be caused by these three significant car crashes with the last one in 2018. I am trying to apply for an injury on duty award but the Dr who examined me has said they were not however i have been told since they are a major contributing factor as i had no symptoms at all prior to the first accident and have suffered since and had to take lots of strong medication, physio and an operation. I can no longer work as a police officer but they are trying to not say the causation is the accidents. I had no neck or shoulder or arm issues prior to the first accident in 2013 but have suffered ever since and greatly so since the last accident in 2018. please can you reply to my email address.
thanks so much

Brief Answer:
Accidents are the main cause of the situation that you are having.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I believe that the 3 car accidents you had at work are the major contributors of the health situation you are having right now.
The main cause of thoracic outlet syndrome is car accidents and cervical spondylosis can also be caused by injuries.
Also taking count that you had not these problems before the accidents it seems to be the cause of the health issues you are having.
Despite physical examination your doctor should evaluate the medical file including the x-rays and scans you had at the time of accidents.

Hope I have answered the question.
