Brief Answer:
Consult a doctor if there is too much swelling.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
After a knee injury if there is a swelling in the area and you have a pain on bearing weight on the knee then you need to consult an orthopedician for an examination and X-ray. In case while walking if you feel that knee is giving way then internal injury of the knee joint is likely which can be diagnosed by MRI scan.
If there is no swelling or mild pain then it can be a minor injury and you can wait for it to subside on its own.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you for that information. I didnt give you enough information on the 1st question. I am a firefighter. I was responding to a call when it happened. I was running and pivoted quick on my foot. I immediately was in alot of pain and could not put weight on the leg. No noticable swelling. I sat for about 20mins and could put weight on the leg again. I spent 2 days in bed 22hrs each day. And tried to walk again. It hurt too much to walk. Again no swelling. Ive been in bed for 5 days now 22hrs each day. I walk around 2 hours each day (shower and dinner) . The knee doesnt hurt, but just feels very uncomfortable. Im able to extend and retract my leg almost 100% in each direction without pain. Just feels very uncomfortable. Ive put on a "unloading" knee brace. Is this correct? I know you can do more damage with the wrong brace. How long can i wear a knee brace for? 24hrs? Or should i be taking it off?

Brief Answer:
MRI scan is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The uncomfortable feeling that you have can be due to an internal injury to the knee ligaments or meniscus. You can continue wearing the brace but it is best to get an MRI scan done to assess the extent of damage your knee has suffered. You can remove the knee brace while resting on the bed.
Hope my answer is helpful.
