Question: Hello there,
I am a man aged 32.
i have seen dark patch on each side of the cheek on my face.
it wasnt there 1 year ago on my face when i look at my photos from 1 year ago.
it started about 6-8 months ago , i feel after i went to my hair dresser who applied the black mask on my face. Black mask was only applied 3-4 times over a period of one month, but ever since after that, these dark spots started to come.

searching on the internet, as to why i had these two spots, one reason said could be stress, another reason melasma. Then i came across somebody writing that after applying black mask, they got it. see below where somebody writes about it.

pls let me know how to get rid of it.

Melasma - %22I used the mask on the Monday evening and Tuesday I went on the sunbed, now I have 2 dark patches on my cheeks and they don't seem to be fading at all, it didn't say anything on the package about not going in the sun!%22

Brief Answer:
Management of Melasma

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to ask a doctor service
I have gone through your query and according to your complaints it seems to be Melasma.
Melasma can occur due to various causes like sun exposure, hormonal changes, certain drugs, cosmetics( black mask included) , thyroid related, genetic and in majority of cases occurs without a cause.
I would recommend you to apply kojic acid based cream cream on the affected areas twice daily along with frequent and regular application of a broad spectrum sunscreen on the entire face 2-3 times during the day time.
Also take some antioxidant capsule containing minerals and vitamins once daily.
These measures need to be continued for atleast 3-4 months to see significant results.
Avoid direct sun exposure and wear sunglasses, cap, hat whenever out in the sun.
Regards
Dr Asmeet
