Hello There My Daughter Is 5 Years Old And Is

My daughter is 5 years old and is very constipated.
She has been on the toilet for 4 hours as her poop won't come out, I can see it's slowly leaking out, and she has refused to hop off.. she's in distress and is very upset. I think it may be too big for her to push out and is stuck?
Is there anything we can do? I am worried that she will prolapse from sitting so long.
She has never been so constipated before.
Is this something that we need to take her to the hospital for?
Enema applies should help

Thanks for using the Ask a Doctor service.
I have gone very carefully through your query. Her present problem seems to be due to stool impaction caused by constipation. For immediate manage application of enema should help her to pass the stool. If she is unable to pass the rest soon it would be good to take her to a hospital and get an enema applied.
Incidentally, constipation in children has become a very frequently encountered problem these days. The primary reason for the same is lack of adequate play and/or the lack of adequate amounts of fiber containing foods in diet.

Make sure that she drinks plenty of water. But you also need to ensure that she goes to pass stool at a regular time every day (irrespective of whether he feels an urge to pass). This will demote stool holding habits and would promote regular bowel habits.
