Question: Hey Doc wanted to get your opinion here please. On March 8th I was in the ER because I wasn't feeling well, probably because I ate in the afternoon heavy after running in the AM and ate too much not wise because I had my gallbladder removed in December. The blood tests in the ER we almost normal except for the Triponin-I HS test which was 27.5. and normal was was until. Question is why was this borderline high? They released me because I did a CTA test almost three years ago and it was completely normal. Any advice would help here as I was concerned because of the heart issue. Thanks and hope you are safe Regards Aryeh

Brief Answer:
It may be due to heavy physical exertion.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
Troponin is secreted by both cardiac muscles and skeletal muscles. In your case you mentioned that you had heavy physical exertion like running which may be the reason for slightly elevated Troponin.
If you don’t have any chest pain or other symptoms as well as a normal ECG nothing much to worry about the heart related problems.
You can go for a repeat Troponin-I and ECG to check whether the change persists or not.
Thanks
