Hey. I Was Supposed To Have My Period 6 Days
![default](/r/images/default.png)
I was supposed to have my period 6 days ago and I haven't got it yet. My periods are normally regular and on time. In these 6 days I have been experiencing light brown discharge and today (the 6th day) I have had light pink spotting. I have taken a pregnancy test and it is negative. I'm wondering if you know what is happening. Also I have been urinating more frequently, I have been extremely hungry and tired too.
Thankyou.

Hello,
Thanks for sharing your health concern with us.
I have gone through your query and would like to offer some suggestions.
Urine pregnancy test should be done with a fresh early morning sample atleast after 3 days after the missed period.
If you have not performed the test as above, please repeat the test. Blood test is more sensitive and specific.
A sonogram of the pelvis, preferably in the trans-vaginal route, will clarify the situation.
If pregnancy is negative, the spotting is due to an impending period or a breakthrough bleeding if there is a transient hormone disturbance, which is seen with sudden weight changes, stress, infections and use of certain medications.
If pregnancy is positive, this could be an implantation bleed, but, the viability of the pregnancy should be established through sonogram. If the bleeding persists, further management becomes necessary.
Please see your health care provider for further assistance.
Hope your query has been clarified. Please feel free to contact for further information. I will be happy to help.
regards,
Shanti.V.

After being 1 week late, on the 8th day I have started bleeding. But it has only lasted 2 days. Which is unusual.
Is this a pregnancy symptom?
Thanks
Not a normal pregnancy symptom.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing back.
The bleeding you have experienced is not a normal pregnancy symptom. As I mentioned earlier, it is more likely to be a delayed period due to transient hormone disturbance.
However, it would be ideal if you can get a proper assessment of the situation and exclude pregnancy for sure. A sonogram is helpful under medical surveillance.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can assist you further.
regards,
Shanti.V.
