Question: Hey doctor,

For the last 3 days I’ve been sneezing a lot all of a sudden and every time I sneeze I get bad chest pain in the upper region right in the centre from it that lasts about 5-10 minutes and then goes away. I’ve also felt really fatigued as well and I’m not sure why it’s happenign all of a sudden I had a night out drinking with friends and that was when the sneezing started and it hasn’t stopped since. I’ve tried an antihistamine but it only seem to help a little bit when usually in the past they worked really well, what exactly could it be?

Brief Answer:
This needs testing

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

This seems to be some starting of a viral infection. Fatigue would happen in a viral but not so much in allergies. It mostly seems to be in windpipe but fatigue and chest pain require tests to rule out lung infection. I would suggest that you get a chest Xray PA view done.

A virus usually takes 5-10 days to recover. If it doesnot recover in this time, then please go for sputum culture and sensitivity to find appropriate bacteria and its antibiotic.

Meanwhile take anti-histaminic as needed. Steam inhalation and breathing techniques will help recover faster.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

I was around someone with the flu last week could it possibly be from that the fatigue and general feeling of being sick and the sneezing might just be hay fever? I had a chest x-ray a couple months back which came out normal as well.

Brief Answer:
Flu virus can also cause sneezing

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

I am not suspecting allergy/hay fever because its not getting relieved with anti-histaminic.

Most probably its flu that you contracted from someone.

Chest Xray would need to be repeated for this episode especially if symptoms are getting worse.

Hey doctor just an update last night I fell a sleep on the couch and had eaten some crisps before bed a few too many and I woke up feeling really hot all over even though I was in cold room along with feeling really nauseous. Can this be a symptom of the flu as well or maybe something I should get checked out?

Brief Answer:
Its your sore throat

Detailed Answer:
Hi again

Feeling hot all over morning after crisps, again suggests a sore throat (viral). If it keeps continuing more than 5-10 days, you may get checked for sputum culture and sensitivity.
