Hey Doctor, For The Last Couple Of Months I’ve Been

Question: Hey doctor,

For the last couple of months I’ve been having urine problems. I am always getting this burning pain at the very tip of my urethra when I go to pee. I’ve had numerous urine tests and a swab of my penis all coming out negative with no bacteria present. What exactly could this be if there is no bacteria? My doctor has ordered one more urine test for me to do which is called a ureoplasma urine sample. With this test is there any specific way I should be collecting my urien mid stream, first thing in the monring or does it not matter for this test? Could that be the reason for my symptoms could anything else be causing it? I’ve also never had sexual intercourse and all the sti tests came out negative anyways.

I’ve also had this fish like smell in my urine as well which is the other main symptom along with the burning pain that I get and I ocassionally get pelvic pains but I have also had an ultrasound of my urinary tract including my bladder which came out normal also.

Brief Answer:
Have you had a microscopy of your urine?

Detailed Answer:
Hi again XXXXXXX

Have you had microscopy of your urine to test parasites and other microbes besides bacteria? If there is no suspicion of microorganisms in your urinary tract, I think a cystoscopy is the next step.

Please let me know if you have further questions. Best wishes.

Hey doctor I don’t believe so I just got ordered to do a ureoplama test which I think was where they were going to check for parasites? With this particular test would I need to do a mid stream and ideally first thing in the morning or does it not matter? My doctor said it takes about 36 hours to get the results from this particular urine sample.

Brief Answer:
Morning urine

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

It tests for the specific bacterium ureaplasma. It should be the first morning urine, and not midstream.

Hope this helps.
