Hey Doctor, For The Last Day Now I’ve Had This
Question: Hey doctor,
For the last day now I’ve had this feeling of there being a cut on the back right side of my toungue which especially hurts if I eat something like a piece of bread. I’m not sure what caused it exactly but it hurts a lot if I swallow but I can’t actually seem to see the cut or anything. How long do you think it’ll take to go away and at what point what it worth be getting checked out? I’m overseas at the moment on a holiday so am a little worried it could get worse and it’s pretty annoying as well is there anything else I can do that’ll help it besides brushing my teeth and using mouthwash I’ve been using the non-alcohol one as well.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
A mouth ulcer may take long time to heal. But a clean cut takes only few hours to heal well.
I would like to know
Since when do you have the cut there ?
Do you get it recurrently ?
Do you have bleeding gums ?
Please do share a image of the site affected. I shall have a look and opine better

Hey doctor I’ve had it for about 24 hours now and it hasn’t got away and I’ve haven’t had anything like this in the past. There is also no bleeding gums but I saw something at be very back of my toungue and it kind of looks like a purple cut. I can’t really get a photo of it but I’ve attached some photos of my toungue otherwise.
Brief Answer:
Tonsillitis with pharyngitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for the images.
I have seen the images attached.
The tonsils appear inflamed along with inflammation in the pharyngeal wall.
You will need a course of antibiotics for this.
You may have to continue gargling antiseptic solution like Chlohex at-least 4 times a day.
Mean while you can take tab Tylenol to reduce the inflammation.
Do consult your GP at the earliest for physical examination and choosing on antibiotics.
Wish you good health.

I’m currently overseas at the moment is the only thing and I feel the pain more so on my toungue only on the right side it hurts quite a bit if I have bread for example and it’s on my toungue so could it still be my tonsils can they heal without antibiotics if it’s viral? Would Panadol or Nurofen be better for it?
How long would it take to heal as well?
Brief Answer:
needs antibiotic
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Yes, Nurofen can help.
But for sure you will need a course of antibiotic put on Asap.
You can go for a combination of ofloxacin 200 mg, ornidazole 500 mg twice daily for a week.
With antibiotics it may take not more than 3 days to get rid of the symptoms.
