Hey Doctor, Since Sunday Last Week I Noticed This White

Question: Hey doctor,
Since Sunday last week I noticed this white Smegma looking discharge under the glans of my penis so I went to my doctor to get everything tested and everything was clean expect I had a bit of candida overgrowth from the swab from my glans. So I was prescribed “Canesten Clotrimazole Anti-fungal Cream” which I have been been applying twice daily to the glans and foreskin as that’s where the discharge mainly was. Now I have been applying it since Wednesday last week so 9 days now and the discharge has completely gone but I had sex a couple of times this week with my partner with a condom that is and I’ve just noticed the glans are quite red now and they have been for the last 3 days do you think that’s the fungal infection or just because the area is irritated in general from the sex? Will the cream make everything worse how long should it take to clear it up usually? I also missed a applying it at night on two of the nights is that a bad thing if I miss an application of the cream?

Are there any general hygiene tips you would have for this type of infection and also applying the cream and how much I should be applying?

I’m also using non latex condoms and I’ve been washing the cream off before sex and then applying the condom plus I’ve been showering straight after and washing the lube off from the condom so I assume that’s probably by best way?
Brief Answer:
Wash with gentle soap and dry well.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I believe the redness and irritation you are having may be related to the fungal infection and possibly it may be a reoccurrence.
You should have been using it for 7 consecutive days used once before bed and the amount would be around 100mg. Missing a dose or not following the advice of the doctor may be causing the reoccurrence.
Also you should use a gentle soap to get washed, dry well and use cotton underwear.
Using condom is good to help you not to get re infected.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hey doctor thanks for the reply I just had a couple of further query’s after visiting my GP.
So she has re examined the area and she said it has improved a lot since I last saw her the rash on the shaft has completely gone, the discharge from the glans is gone I just have a bit of redness left on the glans. However she has prescribed me a single one off dose of Fexofenadine 180mg I just had a few questions about it though. My GP said to take this tablet, stop the antifungal cream on both my glans and shaft then after 3 days to only apply the cream to the shaft to prevent re-infection and then not to worry about using it on the glans since it seems they are more sensitive. However with the tablet I’m little concerned as I have a very sensitive gut and antibiotics for example stir it up really bad and I start getting bad stomach pains could the antifungal cause a similar reaction? I’ve also read that it stays in your system for 7 days is that correct? She also explicitly said to not use antihistamines while using the tablet since they have a bad reaction why exactly is this? It’s also hay fever season at the moment and I tend to get bad hay fever as well so it’s a bit hard at what point after having the tablet could I take an antihistamine?

I’m going to keep using the cream for the next 2 days do you think that would be okay? Then I will see my GP about it again on Monday before using the tablet as I’m a little concerned about it and unclear on how it works.
