Hey Doctor, So Three Weeks Ago After Applying A Hydrocortisone

Question: Hey doctor,
So three weeks ago after applying a hydrocortisone 1% cream on my scrotum area I developed a red rash. Previously to this I had been using it on and off for a about month prior for what I’d believe to be a latex allergy to condoms and on my doctors advice. So after I applied it three weeks ago to my scrotum I stopped using it completely and over the three weeks it got mostly better but then I used it again last Wednesday as the doctor just said it was an allergy to the latex and to use the cream again but the cream made the rash on the scrotum 10x worse and even more red. Is it possible that because of my repeated use over the last couple of months the hydrocortisone cream has caused this rash? The rash seems to burn and after initially applying the cream it itched quite badly as well but the itch has gone down over the last 5 days. So it has been 5 days since I have been off the cream completely and my symptoms are better in terms of the burn and itch however it still remains very red and I am quite concerned as to what the steroid cream has done to the skin. I read about something called RSS(Red Scrotum Syndrome) and steroid withdrawls. Is it possible that I am suffering from this it doesn’t seem to be dermatitis or a latex allergy that’s causing it as I haven’t used them in weeks. What can I do for this and will this even heal it just doesn’t seem to be improving at all in terms of the redness how long would it take and is it best to just not use anything? I am quite young and worried that I have caused something bad from the cream I have read that the XXXXXXX can spread to other parts of the body and that’s very worrying.

Brief Answer:
Possibly you overused or misused hydrocortisone cream.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I believe you overused, misused the hydrocortisone cream and didn't apply it correctly. You have been using it on and off without a certain indication . The overusing of corticosteroid cream may have made skin thinner and easy irritable.
I can advice you not to use any creams at all now .
Wash with gentle soap and dry well. Wear cotton underwear.
Go to an allergologyst and get tested for possible
allergies from latex. You have prove it that is latex causing
it before getting treatment.
Hope I have answered the question .
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks for the reply doc if it doesn’t turn out to be the latex and it was the hydrocortisone 1% cream, is the best treatment for that just stopping it completely? Is there anything else that would help bring down the redness? How long would it take to heal? I have been using cotton only and using no soap at all.
Brief Answer:
Don't use creams at all.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
If it is latex allergy it should be confirmed by an allergologyst. The dermatitis caused by latex allergy can get better by using hydrocortisone cream but it can't be cured. The best cure is to avoid using latex condoms at all.
Another possibility is that it can be thrush.
I think you better stop using any creams at all .
Just wash and dry well for some days till you visit a dermatologist and allergologyst.
