Hi - A Recent CT Scan Told Me That I

Question: Hi - A recent CT scan told me that I have a 6mm stone near the junction of my Ureter and Bladder (UVJ). I had experience moderate to severe pain as the stone has passed from my left Kidney down through the Ureter. I've been advised to see a Urologist and I am looking for one. I dont have any pain at the moment or any other obvious urinary issues. I am seeking some advice to understand the risks of leaving it untreated for a few more weeks/months before considering any type of intervention (whether SWL or anything else that the Urologist might suggest). Thanks in advance for your input.

Brief Answer:
You can expect the stone to pass out spontaneously.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query ,
Based on the facts that you have posted you seem to have a stone of a size of 6 mm in the left ureter being impacted at UV junction .

In majority of patients normally a stone of a size of less than 8 mm pass out spontaneously in urine within a period of 2-3 weeks hence no active intervention is required .However one has to consult qualified Urologist in a situation if one develops severe pain ,vomiting ,fever etc which suggest infection and gross back pressure changes in kidney and demand active intervention to remove the stone endoscopically .

I would suggest you to start following treatment
1) Antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin and Nitrofurantoin twice daily .
2) Tab Tomsulosin once daily .
3) Tab Drotavarine twice daily
Ensure to drink more water to produce more urine to help the passage of the stone .

Repeat Ultrasound Scanning after two weeks to see the status of the location of stone and back pressure changes in kidney and consult Urologist .He would be the best judge to decide whether any active intervention is required or not .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
