Question: Hi -

Facts:
my son is 6 years old
he has a mild case of skin dermatitis
he NEVER received a shot to prevent varicella

Question:
A few kids at his school got varicella, so we would like to vaccinate him. The vaccine we have access to is Varilrix. I am wondering if it is ok to administer it, since reading online it says it should be given to kids from 9 years old and up.
What are our options? Should he get this vaccine or should we wait?

thanks

Brief Answer:
Can be given to child of this age

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform
Varilrix vaccine for varicella can be given to any one who is more than 1 year of age.
If you go through the product literature it says it can be administered in children more than 9 months of age not 9 years.
So your child can go safely for Varilrix vaccination.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more doubt.
Thanks

Vaccination for varicella can be done in dermatitis if the site of injection is clear. At this age injection is given in arm but can also be given in anterolateral thigh.
