Hi - I Am Struggling To Find The Right Dosage

Question: Hi - I am struggling to find the right dosage of medication for myself. I am on wellbutrin currentl 150 mg XL and while i think it helps a little bit, it seems to not really be doing what I need. It is interesting since I started on wellbutrin 75 SR (not extended release) and I felt better for a while and then I think I was a bit anxious, it may have been an initial side effect. But overall that dosage was more effective for me, perhaps because it was not XL? I dont know. Anyway my question is - should I go back to 75 SR - could the SR vs XL be what is tough on me? Do some people do better with the SR? I feel so tired with my current dosage, seems like that shouldn't be the case with this medication. If I go back to 75 will I have really bad withdrawal symptoms or should it be fine? Please let me know as soon as possible.

Brief Answer:
I think there is no harm to go back with earlier dose

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

First of all I like to share with you that XL preparation unlikely to be a cause for problem or less effective if we discuss it theoretically but practically speaking I do get patients with different response when the preparation of medication is changed due to any reason.

It is also not surprising that people respond over a different dose despite having the similar problem. I mean to say that it never means that 75 mg dose will be less effective in compare to 150 mg or higher dose.

Considering the fact that you responded well with the lowest possible dose it is possible that probably you belong to slow metabolizer category and lower dose may be sufficient for treatment of depression.

In regard to withdrawal symptoms I like to clear that it is very rare to get withdrawal symptoms with Bupropion. The medication can be stopped without tapering down in most individuals and considering this fact I feel lowering the dose of medication unlikely to cause any problem.

I hope this helps you.
Feel free to write back to me if you have more questions.
Thanks and regards.
