Question: Hi - my doctor has given me a choice of two birth control pills to start due to my very irregular periods and terrible PMS symptoms. I get very bad headaches, cramps, bloating, and fatigue for 8 days prior to a period and then i have the period for 4 days which makes it a very difficult month each month around. I am wondering which is recommended here. I am EXTREMELY sensitive to meds and i worry the most about weight gain and i really do not want that. i am also prone to anxiety. The choices are Mili (I believe a generic for ortho cyclen) or Ocella - (generic for Yasmin) - i am supposed to start on Sunday. Please advise.

Brief Answer:
PMS

Detailed Answer:
Hello, XXXXXXX is a better drug as it contains drosperinone and also has a better cycle control. Considering the fact that you have painful menses, it would be imperative to rule out endometriosis and vaginal infection or pelvic infection which can also cause aggravation of dysmenorroea. It would be best if you can get an ultrasound pelvis done to check for ENDOMETRIAL THICKNESS AND EVIDENCE OF PELVIS INFECTION IF ANY.

Also for pms symptoms , you may be started on evening primrose oil caps daily along with cap vitamin e daily for 15 days prior to onset of menses, in connivance with your gynaecologist.
