Most likely an abscess
Detailed Answer:
Hello, I'm Dr. Branch, thanks for using 'Ask a Doctor'. It's a little difficult to say for sure without being able to examine it more closely, but the appearance and your description of this sound most likely an abscess that is forming. This can start as a small infection of the hair follicle that then forms an abscess under the skin. This is a common location for them, and I believe the location makes it less likely to be due to a pilonidal cyst/abscess. These often have darkened skin due to the inflammation that can sometimes look like a bruise, and are also very painful.
The treatment for his would be incision and drainage, and possibly antibiotics, so I would recommend seeing a doctor for this to get it taken care of as soon as possible.
I hope that helps, please let me know if you have any other questions about that, and I would be glad to discuss it with you further.
