Question: Hi. Blood tests shows high b12 which I have read can mean liver disease or cancer. mine was 1387 (lab range XXXXXXX range is 1100) high homocysteine maybe due to mthrw mutation. I take active folate but no b12 supplements. Previous b12 test last year for routine blood was normal However all liver and kidney blood tests are good. see below. I do drink beer 4ish times a week maybe 3 to 4 beers. However I never drank when I was younger or in college (well maybe once a month if that). I only have been drinking light beer the last 2 years to help with stress. I dont think 2 years could cause liver cirrhosis? Right ? I am 35 years old. I run over 15 miles a week and bike around 75 miles per week. my doctor isn't concerned with the level

Brief Answer:
A doctor treat symptoms and not numbers.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for asking query on this forum my dear patient,
Have seen your details and the reports attached to it,
A doctor treats a patient and not numbers.Mild elevation or decrease in levels of enzyme can be there .Your vitamin B 12 levels are just mildly increased. If it's liver disease or cancer along with vitamin B 12 levels the liver function tests would be grossly deranged along with a number of symptoms like severe loss of appetite jaundice nausea vomiting etc.Just because level of a single vitamin is mildly increased does not mean that you have a condition like cancer etc.Mild variation in levels can be due to the laboratory instruments also.

High levels of homocysteine is an indicator of future cardiac risk. Its just an indicator that you are at risk of cardiac disease in future.
Bone marrow mutation liver cancer are all extreme cases and patient with then has almost a number of parameters grossly deranged with severe symptoms.

Cirrhosis is end stage liver disease and even in a chronic alcoholic would take minimum of 10 years to develop.Very likely all you are having is a pathology called fatty liver disease or stage 1 liver disease. Its very common after an age of 30 in males.
I think you are over skeptical about problem by reading it on Google.
Just follow a high complex carbohydrate low fat and high lean protein diet.
Take flax seed daily one spoon for 3 months and milk of thistle for liver rejenuvators.
Your parameters would be fine in a month or so.
Absolutely no need to worry.
Thank you.
Regards.
