Question: Hi Doc - I have a question. I am about 7 months pregnant currently and I just had my glucose test and failed the 1 hour portion of the test. My levels were at 160. I am very nervous about taking the three hour test in a week. I don't know if there are any ways that I can go about trying to get my blood sugar down before then - any herbs or remedies? Plus, I do NOT eat much sugar and I am of normal weight although, in this pregnancy, i have gained 28 pounds already.

I am waiting to clarify but my dad has type 2 diabetes - although he does not have it bad.

If i get it, which medications will they put me on? I am so upset.

Brief Answer:
Single step post glucose test. Lifestyle changes.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
I welcome you to HCM virtual clinic.
I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

First of all do not panic.
I will suggest you to get single step post glucose test.
Get your blood sugar levels done 2 hours after taking 75 grams glucose.
Do not eat anything after taking glucose till you give blood sample.
Cut off value for the test is 140 mg%.

Even in case of abnormal report, diet and exercise is the mainstay of the treatment.
If needed medication safe in pregnancy can be prescribed.

Secondly, please opt for a healthy diet and regular exercise regime.
Include plenty of water fruits and vegetables and salads in daily diet.
Drink plenty of water in the day.

Please feel free to communicate with me again, once you get the blood sugar levels reports.
I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.
