Question: Hi Doc,

A month back I had my blood test which is attached. I met a doctor, who prescribed me the following medicines metformin 500 & roseday 10 mg in night, 1/2 gibtulio, Eritel ln 40 and Lipaglyn in the morning. I continued the medicine for 10 days with a low carb diet and started feeling very hungry even after eating good food. I was on zero sugar.

Then I had a random blood sugar once and it was 89 mg/dl. I stopped the medicines metformin and gibtulio and started feeling better. I usually drink on weekends. Last weekend I check my fasting blood sugar in the home it was 105mg/dl and 2hours after food it was 118 mg/dl. I started feeling a bit tired and extreme hunger. I guess my blood sugars are normal. Why do I have the feeling of continuous hunger? Should I consult the doctor or not. I stopped taking all the medicine except eritel ln 40. Please advise

Brief Answer:
Increased hunger may be due to tab gibtulio.. Consult with diabetologist

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I have gone through your query and here is my advice.

As per your attached reports, your fasting and postprandial sugar levels and HbA1c are on higher side. It may indicate diabetes mellitus

For which you may require anti diabetic medications along with regular exercise and low carb diet.

Hypoglycemia i. e. Low blood sugar is common side effects of tablet gibtulio which may cause increased hunger.

So I would suggest you to stop tablet gibtulio and adjust metformin dosage after diabetologist consultation. It would be better to check blood sugar level three times a day before food.

Watch for other hypoglycemia symptoms like sweating, rapid pulse rate...

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.

I stopped metformin and gibtulio 10 days back and my sugar levels were in normal limits. But still I feel extreme hunger after even eating a full nice meal. I am currently only on Lipaglyn and Roseday 10 in the morning.

Is it due to lipaglyn and alcohol interaction causing low blood sugar and hunger? also I have IBS problem, is that causing hunger. Please help with any tablet to calm down the feel of hunger

Brief Answer:
may be due to Diabetes and alcohol.....

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

Polyphagia i.e increased appetite is a one of the common symptom of Diabetes mellitus along with increased thirst and urine frequency.

Along with that, Alcohol causes low sugar level which may aggravate the symptoms. So kindly avoid alcohol. I don't think, it may be due to IBS.

So kindly consult with Diabetologist and follow all advice as suggested earlier.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi Doctor,

Actually I have been drinking every day for nearly 12 years. I have now restricted my self to alcohol for 3days i.e Fri, Sat, Sun on a week for the past two months. Also, I have limited my carb intake.

Do this change in my habit or alcohol withdrawal could give me the symptoms for high and low blood sugar?

I just took the diabetic tables 10 days only now I stopped. and my main symptoms are frequent hunger, feeling sleepy after an evening snack when i am hungry, slight dizziness and lack of concentration some times. During the evening I checked my random blood sugar was 86 mg/Dl, even when I am not on any medication. Is it low? Please advise.

I would like to know if I am fully diabetic or a prediabetic and worrying too mcuh

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

As per your attached reports, fasting 143, postprandial 177 and HbA1c 6.7 are above normal range which indicate Diabetes mellitus. For that you may require anti diabetic medications along with low carb diet and regular exercise.

Though your random blood sugar level is 86, random blood sugar level is not a reliable/specific test. Still it's normal.

So I would suggest you to do blood sugar level monitoring. Kindly check blood sugar levels before and after breakfast, before lunch and dinner and consult with diabetologist.

As per my knowledge, increased hunger may be a diabetes symptom as explained above. You only require dosage adjustment after consultation.

Hope I have answered your query and let me know if I can assist you further.
