Hi Doc, My Father Has Cataract In His Both Eyes.
Question: Hi Doc, My father has cataract in his both eyes. He had a surgery last year for right eye, and there doctor used Alcon SN60WF IOL lens. Now he wants to go for left eye surgery. And another doctor is suggesting to go with Tecnis eyhance iol lens. So that he doesn't need to use glasses for near vision. Is it a good approach or we should go with same lens as right eye have? Or some other lens or suggestion you can provide? His major concern is, he doesn't want to use glasses for day to day work. Thank you for your time.
Brief Answer:
But does he have glasses for the other eye
Detailed Answer:
Hey thanks for the question . But if he has glasses for the other eye then he will anyways have to wear spectacles so putting Tecnis in the other eye will be of no use . Secondly there is no hundred percent fool proof method to get rid of near vision glasses as it is due to the weakness of the muscle with age and we cant stop ageing . So i think its better to go with a lens so you dont have to wear distant vision glasses and wear some aid for near . Hope it helps regards

currently he doesn't use glasses for day to day work. as his near vision is okay with left eye(which has cataract). and far vision is okay with right eye(which has been treated last year). but now concern is if we treat left eye also then his near vision will become bad. and he will need permanent near vision spectacles.
Or this can be solved with some other lens/method?
if Not, and we go for the cataract surgery for other eye. then what is your suggestion on the choice of lens?
a) Alcon SN60WF IOL lens (one eye already has this)
b) Tecnis eyhance iol lens (will improve near vision to 1.5, as suggested by my doc(not sure if this info is correct))?
c) some other lens?
Thank you so much for your time and advice.

Brief Answer:
For near vision he will need glasses .
Detailed Answer:
hey thanks for the follow up question . I personally dont suggest tecnis symphony for one eye if other eye doesnt have it . Even with the best lenses some defect for near vision will remain as told by your doctor and then glasses will be necessary . Its better to go for the distance vision lens ( you can go for alcon or any other good lens you want ) and for near wear glasses . He wont have to wear near vision glasses permanently sir they are to be worn only while doing near vision work . Hope it helps . Regarda
