Hi Doctor, Can You Please Let Me Know What Is

Question: Hi Doctor,

Can you please let me know what is the standard vaccination schedule for infants (0-1 yr)? We visited a doctor recently for my 9 month old son's vaccination. My son was supposed to get just the MMR vaccine. However the doctor suggested to give the typhiod vaccine also, which was supposed to be given at 12 months. Also the OPV vaccine (to be given at 9 months) in our initial schedule was not administered. The doctor suggested to give it at 15 months. Is this alright? Can we wait till 15 months to give the OPV vaccine. I would like to make sure my son gets the right vaccines at the right time. (This mix up happened because we moved to a different place and were not aware that different schedules are followed in different locations.)

Secondly, can you please let me know when is the right time to introduce dairy products to infants? Can cheese, yoghurt and panner be introduced to 9 month old? Any diet chart for a 9 month old you would have will also be helpful.

Thirdly, I am giving 1 ml Jusdee (Vit D3 drops) since birth (now 9.5 months old). I was instructed to give 1ml till 1 year, but during our recent visit to the hospital, the doctor suggested to increase the dose to 2ml. Is this necessary? (My baby has only one tooth popped out so far. Could this be a reason to increase the dosage? Is it related?)

Looking forward to your response.

Sincerely, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Suggestions on vaccines/ Complimentary feeding and vitamin D

Detailed Answer:
Hello...Your pediatrician is perfectly right in advising to give Typhoid conjugate vaccine at 9 months and to give OPV at 15 months.
It is not different schedules at different locations.
It is the latest IAP schedule to be followed all over XXXXXXX being advised by your pediatrician now.
Cow's milk should be introduced after 1 year and same case with non-vegetarian.
Ground nut can introduced after 2 years of age.
At this age you can start giving Cerelac stage one rice or Nestum rice stage 1 etc. All are same in calories and energy. Only thing is palatability which is subjective for each kid.
Other home-made food options will be -
1. Daal and rice well cooked and made into a porridge along with ghee
2. Boiled apple or banana and mashed into a paste.
3. Any made cereal porridge preparation with additional ghee added.
Remember certain principles like -
1. Add one food material / cereal or fruit per week. This will be useful because if he develops vomiting or diarrhea, we will know what to avoid.
2. Add vegetables and fruits made into a paste surely to avoid constipation.
3. Do not add too much sugar as it may cause diarrhea.
It is not necessary to increase Vitamin D drops to 2ml - but no harm in increasing too.
Advanced teething is not related to Vitamin D administration.
