Hi Doctor, I Had Unprotected Sex With Unknown HIV Status

To clear my doubt for HIV, I did CMIA test yesterday & received reports today as "non reactive". The report is attached for your reference. I have following question,
1. Can I consider this report as conclusive? Considering the tests conducted & window period?
2. Whether the current medicines of fever, cold, cough influence the test to show false negative results?
The result is highly reliable.
Detailed Answer:
Dear Kimphilbi,
Welcome to Ask A Doctor Service.
The risk of getting HIV through unprotected sex with an unknown status woman is considered as unlikely and the CMIA test result after 68 days of exposure is also negative then you need not to worry because the result is more than 95% reliable and conclusive.
Fever, cold and cough might be due to seasonal illness and the medicines for the same not at all influence the result of HIV CMIA test. As such the window period for HIV infection varies from 15 days to 3 months you need to go for repeat test after 90 days of exposure to get 100% conclusive and reliable result. Allay the fear or anxiety and live your life normally because the result will definitely come in your favour.
Thank You
