Hi Doctor: I Just Had My MRI Completed With Contrast
Question: Hi Doctor:
I just had my MRI completed with contrast and received certain findings that I am confused about. About 1 week ago I had a CT scan with contrast and nothing showed up as concerning. Both were done to see why I have microscopic blood in my urine.
In the findings area:
Liver/Biliary: There is a patchy drop out of signal within the liver on out of phase imaging. No bile duct dilatation or heptic mass. Gallbladder appears normal. Can you please tell me what that means? On my CT scan everything showed as normal in that area but I am not certain if that is worrisome or what is going on with that.
Kidneys/Ureters: There are bilateral symmetric nephrograms. A simply cyst within the midpole of the left kidney is noted measuring 4 mm. There are no suspicious renal mass is identified. The ureters are normal in caliber and demonstrate no filing defect. Can you please explain what all of that means and if anything is worrisome. On the CT scan everything came back as normal. I have no idea what bilateral symmetric nephrograms is about and it is troubling (to me) that they found a cyst.
Impression: No specific MR findings are identified to account for the patient's hematuria. No mass or filing defect identified within the ureters or bladder.
Can you please let me know your thoughts of the radiologists remarks about the findings identified above? My Doctor has been busy with day to day and never returned my (rather frantic) phone calls and emails.
Thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Everything sounds completely normal
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
The symmetrical nephrograms indicates that the kidneys function in a symmetric and normal way. The patcher out of signal is not specific, and does not suggest any disease. You should have a contrast ultrasound of your liver performed, just to be safe. The kidney cyst measuring 4mm is completely harmless and does not require further diagnostics or treatment.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Dr. I had a CT scan with contrast done about a week ago prior to this test and it stated for Liver and Biliary system that no abnormality noted. No enhancing mass. No int rahepatic biliary distention. Does that pretty much close the book on further investigation of the liver finding? Thanks. XXXXXXX
would you still recommend at Ultrasound? Thanks Again, XXXXXXX
