Hi Doctor, My 9 Months Old Baby Is Not Sitting
![default](/r/images/default.png)
My 9 months old baby is not sitting straight. While he sits could see his back is bend. But his back is normal when we hold him. He does not get up on his own when we make him lie down. Is this behavior normal. How to make him sit straight. Please advise
May be normal for his age, developmental assessment is needed
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on Ask A Doctor platform
I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
Sitting is a gross developmental milestone and is usually achieved by age of 8 months.
Initially the infant sits with support with curved back. Then he gradually sits without support with straight back and this transition period may take 1 to 2 months.
Rolling over on bed is seen around 7 months and getting up from lying down is next milestones.
There is always a range of period for achieving any milestone and varies among different infants.
In your condition I won't get overly worried as he is still 9 months old only.
I would request you to consult a pediatrician for proper developmental and neurological assessment to rule out remote possibilty of any abnormality.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
