Hi Doctor, My Wife (29 Yrs) Fell Down On The
My Wife (29 Yrs) fell down on the floor and her Left elbow got fracture. We visited hospital and the doctor told it is a minor chip fracture. From the hospital they applied plaster cast and kept hand in sling.
Doctor advised us to open this after a week to take x-ray and we have to do a similar procedure for 2 more weeks(maybe they will remove the cast).
This incident happened 4days ago ( 03-01-2021),and every night while sleeping she feels like cramping pain between elbow and shoulder . When she sits for sometime pain goes away and day time is also ok.
Is this normal the pain she is feeling at night? How many days the pain will stay? Any sleeping position to get rid of this pain?
Doctor didn't give any medicine/Pain killer as she is feeding 15 month old kid

Can be due to heaviness of the cast.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually a chip fracture of elbow takes around 4 weeks to heal properly. The cramping pain that she is feeling in the upper arm is likely to be due to heaviness of the cast. After a week, it is best if you get this plaster cast changed into a lightweight PU cast so that it is more comfortable. She can remove the sling while sleeping and it is best to sleep on the back or in right lateral position.
She can start with regular calcium supplements as she is breast feeding a baby also so that the bone can heal fast. Pain killer is not much needed as long as there is no pain.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Wishing you good health.

Will she able to do all the day to day activities like before after 4 weeks time?
For calcium Doctor suggested Calblend during delivery time(1 year ago), due to unavailability we changed to Shelcal HD(From medical shop saying this is the replacement) is that fine? or any good alternative tablet suggestions? Also she is taking only 1 calcium tablet daily. should we increase the number?

Physiotherapy will be needed to reduce joint stiffness.

Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
After 4 weeks the fracture is likely to heal and she can do her daily routine activities after proper physiotherapy to decrease the joint stiffness. For calcium supplement, it is best if she gets Corcium K2 once a day. Otherwise she can continue with Shelcal HD once a day.

Plaster cast has been removed on Monday (9th Day) and advised to keep sling for 2 more weeks. Did n't take X ray this week. Any advise we have to take care off?
How long we may require to take Calcium supplement?

You can get an X-ray done.
Detailed Answer:
You can get a check X-ray done to see if the bone fragment is at its place and is not displaced.
It is best to take calcium supplements for 4-6 weeks as your wife is breast feeding also.

You can apply a balm.
Detailed Answer:
The shoulder pain can be due to a muscle spasm. You can apply local analgesic gel like volini or a balm for relief. Hot compress will also help.
