Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter is 27 months. Today we have noticed some redness on her neck and a little swelling around that area. She goes to day care and we noticed this when she came back today. Pics attached.
Please suggest what it could be and what shall we do?

Regards,

Brief Answer:
Most likely insect bite or contact dermatitis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on Ask A Doctor platform

I have seen the image and do understand your concern.
After seeing the images, to me it appears to be some insect bite or contact dermatitis(allergy).
Please tell me if there is any associated pain, burning sensation or itching.
As it is of sudden onset chances of infection is less. Bruise may be another possibility if there is history of trauma.
In most of the cases allergic dermatitis or insect bite improves over a period of 3-4 days. Itching or burning sensation goes more in favour of allergy/insect bite.
Application of cream containing steroid like clobetasone/mometasone helps in allergy or insect bite.
Please provide me the details or get her examined by a pediatrician for better management.

I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
