Hi Doctor, My Daughter Is Coughing Since Yesterday With Some

Question: Hi Doctor,
My daughter is coughing since yesterday with some strange loud sound. Not sure how to explain (may be whooping sound). She is 2.5 yrs old.
What shall we do in this case?
We have Alerid, Montair LC and Ambrolite-S available at home just in case any of these can be given. Please suggest what shall we do along with the dosage.
Regards,
Ankur

Hi Doctor,
To add to what I said earlier,
We also have Ventorlin and Maxtra available in case needed. Thanks.

Brief Answer:
You can give Ventrolin and maxtra, azithromycin should also be given
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform
I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
The type of cough you have described can be due to bronchitis/laryngitis. This can be croup or whooping cough and is best assessed by direct examination.
I won't get overly worried if child is otherwise active, taking feeds, there is no vomiting or breathing difficulty.
You can give Ventrolin which is a bronchodilator helps in relieving airway spasm and maxtra an antiallergic with decongestant in the prescribed dosage.
I would like to add azithromycin an antibiotic which covers the organisms causing airway infection. The dose of azithromycin will be 10-15 mg/kg/day once a day for 5 days.
Please get these medications prescribed by a pediatrician.
In case you are finding any abnormal symptoms like poor feeding, severe bouts of cough, noisy breathing or fast breathing please consult your pediatrician.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards

Hi Doctor,
Thanks for your reply.
The dosage prescribed for Maxtra was 2.5 ml 3 times a day and Ventorlin 3.5 ml 3 times a day. This was prescribed around 10 months back.
Will the dosage remain same now as well or it has to be increased. Please suggest. Her weight is 13.5 KGs now and age is 2.5 yrs.

Ankur
