Question: Hi Doctor, Since about July ive been having trouble with pain in my neck and head. I wake up with what feels like a stiff neck, the main troublesome pain is at the front of my neck where my jugular notch is. Its a constant pain all day. The pain also affects my back teeth and also above my eyebrows across my forehead. Some days is worse that others. There is mild relief with painkillers but not a great deal, i feel tired and worn out it with it all. I had an ENT exam in Sept/Oct where i was told to take Omerprazole 20mg twice a day as mouth and throat was slightly red, this has not helped me at all, im at a real loss with whats going on, ive had lots of bloods done and all came back fine? Help :-(

Brief Answer:
Get checked doing a x-ray of TM joint and neck.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.

I think you should get further evaluated doing a x-ray of your teeth and a x-ray of the neck.
The cause of your face, neck and head ache may be related to Temporomandibular joint disorder or neck spine such spondyloarthrosis.

You may need to visit a maxillofacial surgeon to check the teeth and tm joint.

Hope I have answered the question.

Hi there,

Thanks for getting back to me.

I understand your views here but i dont have much problem with my jaw, it feels like the pain radiates from the front of my neck up to my teeth.

Is it possible something else where my jugular notch is is causing this pain, its also accompanied with a burning sensation on the chest also?

At times it feels like i have a tight band round the base of my neck at the front with the this constant pain.

Thanks,.

Brief Answer:
Do an ultrasound of the neck also.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again
The burning sensation may be related to gastro esophageal reflux and this can be a reason why doctor gave you omeprazole.
I think you may also need an ultrasound of the neck to check thyroid or possibly inflammatory lymph nodes which also may cause your symptoms.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
