Hi Doctor, I Have Always Had Tinnitus From A Teen.
i have always had tinnitus from a teen. i am now 31yrs old. Recently about 3 weeks now my right ear have been bothering me. It feels a bit full, and it have a tumbling/pusling beat inside. Sometimes it strikes a fast pain n disappears within seconds. I am hypertensive, but i do take meds (hydrochlorothiaside 12.5mg) and it is under control (130/80).
I went to my doctor recently (13-May-2020). Pressure was good- and she looked inside my ear and said that inside she can see something inside bulging/inflammed (not sure exactly what she said but it was something along those lines).
She prescribed me:
-Ciproflaxacin/Dexamethasone (instill 3 or 4 drops into the affected ear twice a day for 1 week.
-Fluticaaone Furoate 27.5mcg (use one spray twice a day for 1 week then once daily.
-Azithromycin 250mg (take 2 tablets now, then take 1 tablet once daily)
-Fexofenadine 180mg (take 1 tablet once daily)
The issue now is that since taking the meds, i feel that the condition has worsen. I advise her, but she told me to wait until Monday to see if any change. I also had an expisode of lightheadedness yesterday.
Yesterday i inserted a qtip inside the affected ear and it hurt alot.
What i want to know is what do you think might be my condition? My doctor said it is inflammed with no fluid, but i dont know and is worried that it may be a tumor.
Please advise.
May no be tumour
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your query.
With the description, you have provided about the problem and the antibiotics suggested by the doctor, I suspect it to be ASOM - Acute suppurative otitis media.
This is middle ear infection by bacteria which results in pus collection behind the tympanic membrane.
This is usually a painfull condition. Seen as bulging if the tympanic membrane. The pain is unrelated to the infection. Antibiotics might have halted or cured the infection but the pus remains there. The pain will suddenly disappear when the tympanic membrane ruptures and drains out all the pus.
This is what I can say without examination.
I would recommend you to follow your doctor's advice and do not insert a q- tip again. It could be dangerous to meddle with which is not seen at this stage.
Hope, I answered your query.
Please do ask doubts if any.
Regards,
