Question: Hi Dr. I had a handjob in a massage parlor. Strictly that. Worried of chances of sti including hpv. However, heard from one expert zero chance of anything including hpv. Read posta from experts on medhelp zero chance of anything. However some sources say otherwise. Possibility of hpv through skin on skin contact. Read a recent article saying no risk. The last expert i spoke too was certain of no risk. What is your opinion? Also, why and hiw are there such differences on the internet?

Brief Answer:
Regarding STDs from a handjob

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to ask a doctor service. I have gone through your query and noted your concern.

The only possible yet rare scenario of getting STDs through a handjob, is if she touched her genitals while she gave you a handjob. Otherwise, a handjob is as safe as a handshake. So, you can imagine how safe it is. Moreover, HPV is a local infection. So, even if anyone has genital HPV, it would be localized to that area. It could not possibly be passed on by the skin of hands. Leave alone other STDs like Syphilis, Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, HIV and Genital herpes which are only transmitted by direct contact of genital surfaces with infectious genital secretions from infected partner.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you need any more assistance.

Hi Doc,
Final speculative question. I am certain from my encounter it was only a handjob. Lasting only a few minutes maximum. But as i said, very drunk. As her ass was facing me, if she spat on my penis for lube - don't recall this - would this put me at risk from anything?

Regarding STDs

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
In that case, there is a possibility of genital herpes if she had the virus in her saliva and she used her spit. In that case even someone with active syphilitic lesions inside oral cavity would be considered infectious. Though HIV is less likely unless someone has open sores or blood mixed saliva from sores.
Take care.

Sorry doc. I know i am driving myself into anxiety as pretty sure thisndid not happen. If there was saliva, what are odds of transmission of any infection for single exposure?

Seen this link from medhelp about contracting hsv 2. Seems reassuring. Would you agree with this?

Hi Doc
Just read again that it is highly unlikely to get hsv - 2 from the mouth as it prefers genitals. As i have had cold sores from a child - hsv 1 i am sure - this would make me immune from genital hsv - 1. Also pretty certain no spit took place but anxiety is taking hold. Would you agree that any risk is minimal?

Brief Answer:
Regarding HSV

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
The risk of HSV 1 transmission solely from a handjob with saliva used as a lube is not well defined. This is because most people practice other forms of sex too during the same sex encounter but definitely it is very less. HSV 1 can infect the genitals but usually it is HSV 2 that causes genital herpes. HSV 1 causes cold sores and having it already does lower the chances of getting it elsewhere. HSV 2 is usually a genital infection, so the only way someone with HSV 2 can give it to you is if you practice vaginal/ anal sex with her or do oral sex on her. With vaginal and anal sex you would get HSV 2 on genitals and with oral sex on someone with genital HSV 2 you would get it on mouth.
Take care.
