Hi Dr, I Recently Had Some Lab Work Done On

Question: Hi Dr, I recently had some lab work done on my kidneys from my family Dr. MyeGFR was 48 when 2 years ago it was 60. My creatinine was 1.2 and my bun was 18.I don’t know why it dropped by 12 points. Is this something to worry about?
Brief Answer:
Do on nuclear renal scan to accurately check your gfr.
Detailed Answer:
good day and thank you for being with healthcare magic
a drop by 12 in your egfr based on their serum creatinine is not really a good indicator or a measure for your kidney function.
i would suggest doing a nuclear renal scan to accurately measure the gfr and to know the real function of your kidneys.
Lab examination such as creatinine could be affected by your hydration.

Thankyou for your answer. So you think it could be dehydration causing this?
Brief Answer:
Yes i think you were just dehydrated at that time.
Detailed Answer:
yes i think you were just dehydrated at the time of the examination that's why there was an increase in your serum creatinine.
i suggest you get hydrated the following days and then repeat the blood exam and if it is still elevated for some reason then you might need to see a nephrologist to get a nuclear renal scan to accurately measure your kidney function.
