Hi, Dr. Spaho. It's Been A Long Time And Hope

Question: Hi, Dr. Spaho. It's been a long time and hope u and your family are all safe and well. Doctor, an important question. I finally got in to see the neuro surgeon who does the botox in the facial area and as u suggested, had only one side done which is the right side where I've had decades of that dull aching atypical odontalgia. I went in there with an intensity level of about 3 and tonight, hours after he injected, the intensity has shot up to 10 where I'm more aware of that achiness in the gum and my neck muscle on that side feel tight and constricted as well. My question is this - of course, I was hoping to mitigate this issue, not intensify it. Do u feel this may short lived result from the injections or long term like this?

Brief Answer:
Some degree of discomfort or pain may happen in the first days.

Detailed Answer:
Hello again and thanks for the kind words.

I have read your new query.

The latency of the response to reduction of the pain after Botox injections for atypical odontalgia is from 2 to 15 days.

Some discomfort or pain is acceptable in the days following the injections since it is a relatively traumatic procedure.

I don't see why there should be muscles spasms on the neck, you could use warm procedures to relieve the spasmed muscles.

I think your condition will be improved soon ( in a few days ) and it will last for months.

So, don't worry about any discomfort in the first days.

Hope this helps.

Feel free to ask if you have further questions.

In good health.
