Brief Answer:
It is a safe, effective and popular procedure.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Saphenous nerve block is a successful and often used method for anaesthesia during the surgery and for analgesia after the surgery for post operative pain relief.
It is an ultrasound guided small and safe procedure with good efficacy and minimal complications. It blocks the pain on the medial side of the knee and the ankle. It gives a prolonged pain relief and is a popular procedure these days. You can go for it if your orthopedician and anaesthetist agrees.
The problems associated with saphenous nerve block include allergic reactions, pain at the injection site, infection, etc but all these can minimized under an expert care.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Best wishes.
Regards.
