Hi, Four Days Ago, My Son Was Diagnosed With Foot,
Four days ago, my son was diagnosed with Foot, Hand and Mouth disease. We took him to a pediatrician (my son is 2 years and 10 months old) and he prescribed some medicines and ointments (I'm attaching the prescription here).
A couple of days ago, my 7 months old daughter and 30 years old wife, too, got infected with the disease. So, my question is as follows:
1) Should I give them the same medicine as prescribed for my son?
2) A couple of hours ago, I measured my daughter's temperature. She had 100 degrees Fahrenheit. We gave her crocin for kids. Is there any specific medicine that should be administered to her?
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Please provide the details of clinical symptoms
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for asking on this platform
I have gone through the query and have seen the attached prescription.
I do understand your concern.
Here I want to put some of my points..
1)Based on prescription I can't say what kind of rashes these are. In prescription localised maculopapular rashes is mentioned in the clinical finding. There can be so many other causes of maculopapular rashes. In hand foot mouth disease there is usually involvement of palms, soles and ulcers can be there in mouth with fever as an associated symptom.
2)As I am not aware of proper symptoms, a provisional diagnosis can't be made and so can't suggest the medication.
3)The dosage will be different for different weight and age so the same medicine/dose can't be given.
4)Most likely it is due to some viral infection which is contagious may be measles, hand foot mouth disease or some other.
5)You can give calpol or paracetamol for fever as in most of the viral infections symptoms get improved with Conservative treatment only(as prescribed by your doctor like antiallergic, emollient and local antibiotic).
6)I request you to attach an image and provide me the details like associated cough, cold, redness of eyes, the area involved etc. so that I better able to help you out.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards
Yes, you are right. There are pimples like rashes on the mouth, foot, palms, soles and also ulcer in the mouth. My daughter had a fever but my wife still hasn't got a fever. But, going by the trend, I think she will have a fever soon.
Please find attached the snapshot of the rashes with this message. Also, many other kids fell ill because of this virus. The virus is called coxsackievirus. I hope it works.
Please suggest.
Same medication can be used, consult a doctor if worsening in symptoms

Hi
Thanks for follow up
After seeing the attached image and based on description most likely it is hand foot mouth disease.you are right as this is caused by coxasckie virus and is highly contagious.
There is no specific treatment for virus itself and treatment with medications for fever, emollient lotion and well hydration. Sometimes antiallergic(also helps in itching) can be needed if there is associated itching and antibiotic cream to prevent secondary bacterial infection.
I won't get worried as in such cases the symptoms usually subsides with the above medications only.
In case of fever you can give paracetamol or calpol 500 mg for your wife. It can be given three times a day. Same emollient cream can be applied if there is any rash for both of your wife and younger child.
The dose of paracetamol for children is 10 mg/kg/dose and it can be given three to four times a day based on frequency of fever.
In case of itching you can give same dose of fexofenadine (allegra) for younger baby and for wife it will be 60 mg twice a day.
If you are noticing persistent high grade fever, rapid breathing, rapid progression of rash or any other significant symptoms please consult your pediatrician.
Wishing good health for your family.
