Question: Hi

I am 19 weeks pregnant. From few days, I have very tight stomach. Specially the upper abdomen above naval. What could be the reason ? Is it something to be worried about. I also don't have a pregnancy bump yet and no sensations either. Infact I don't feel anything as of now. Just some minor pains which are not consistent. Is this normal?

Thanks

Detailed below.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.

If this is your first pregnancy, the skin over the abdomen is taut and as it gets stretched during pregnancy due to the enlarged uterus, you get the tightness sensation.

Small transient contractions are common unless they cause pain, are frequent and prolonged and/or associated with vaginal discharge.

Again, if this is your first pregnancy, you may not be able to feel fetal movements until 20-24 weeks. Enlargement of the abdomen is not obvious early in some persons depending on the stature.

Please have regular follow up. I don't think there is any reason to worry in the current scenario. Stay calm, take adequate liquids and rest.

Hope you find this information helpful. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

regards,
Shanti.V.
