Question:
Hi I am 43 years old and trying to conceive naturally. I have had one miscarriage at 10 weeks 2 years ago. I am now ready to try again.
The problem is I have started having 2 days light bleeding then a normal 5 day period ending with 2 days light bleeding again. This has happened for 2 months now should I be worried? I always had 5 days but now it has changed to this pattern. I am worried I wont conceive naturally again

I was on Metformin but I have stopped taking it the last 2 weeks could this be the cause of my bleeding and spotting
Brief Answer:
Metformine doesn't cause spotting, still you have chances to concieve natur
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to "Ask a doctor service" . I read your query and here is my advice.
Having a prolonged period or spotting may indicate a gynecological issue (such fybromyoma, polyps, endometrial hyperplasia or colum uteri changes) or a hormonal imbalance. Being on metformine can't affect your cycle and can't cause spotting and bleeding.
It is advisable to visit a gynaecologist, do a total gynecological check up doing ultrasound and colposcopy and even pap smear. If all these tests are normal the spotting maybe caused by hormone imbalance. These issues and hormone imbalance can make concieveing more difficult but yet possible.
So as a conclusion you still can convince naturally despite experience these spotting.
Taking count of your previous history of abortion, your age and this recent situation I can advise you to visit a fertility specialist.
Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

I am having severe anxiety at the moment do you think this could be a cause. My cycles are regular every 25 to 28 days but this cycle completely unusual as was 33 days. I have done ovulation tests and they have been positive
Brief Answer:
Stress and anxiety may cause cycle irregularities too.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear and thank you for asking again.
Anxiety and stress can cause cycle irregularities and this is quite true but you have to check the other issues I firstly mentioned.
If ovulation tests are positive that is a good news that you can continue to try conceiving.
Cycle irregularities doesn't prevent a cycle to produce eggs.
